Get Outside in Moncton-Dieppe

Calling all nature lovers and outdoor adventurers! The Moncton-Dieppe area is the place to stay if you want to discover New Brunswick’s unique landscapes and diverse ecosystems. You can drive less than an hour in any direction and be greeted by a different environment every time. Ready for a little adventure? Here we go!

Hopewell Rocks Provincial Park

If you’re looking for a one of a kind experience, look no further. Hopewell Rocks Provincial Park, just south of Moncton-Dieppe, is a true gem of the Bay of Fundy, which is home to the world’s highest tides. The tide can rise as high as 16 metres, allowing visitors to paddle among the giant sea stacks sculpted by the power of the bay over thousands of years. Just six hours later, the tide will have receded completely, and visitors can step right onto the ocean floor and explore the rocks and caves shaped by the water. Be sure to bring proper footwear – it can be muddy!

Helpful tip: Tickets to Hopewell Rocks Provincial Park are valid for two consecutive days to allow you plenty of time to enjoy the park at hide tide and low tide. Be sure to check the tide tables while planning your visit.

The Tidal Bore

Speaking of tides, did you know you can marvel at the power of the Bay of Fundy right in the centre of town? When the tide rises back into the bay, the water is pushed with such force that it reverses the flow of the Petitcodiac River and creates a wave. This natural phenomenon is called a tidal bore. Useful tip: you might see the tidal bore 15-20 minutes before or after the estimated arrival time, so be sure to come early!

You can experience the tidal bore twice a day from various spots in Moncton-Dieppe, such as Riverfront Park. Don’t forget to check the arrival times before heading out!

Hit the Links

Looking to tee off on your vacation? You’re in luck! The Moncton-Dieppe area features some of the best golf clubs in the province. With such unique landscapes, it’s no surprise that our golf courses are so beautiful.

You can immerse yourself in nature and fresh air as you play a round on Moncton-Dieppe’s links and still be just a few minutes away from the city centre. Here are a few options to get you started:

Fundy National Park

The rugged seascapes, the sound of waves crashing against the cliffs, the rustling of the wind through thick forests, the smell of the salty air… Fundy National Park is truly an outdoor enthusiast’s paradise! Offering dozens of hiking trails, canoeing or kayaking on the lakes, a heated saltwater pool, and breathtaking views of the mighty Bay of Fundy, it’s a great place for a day trip.

Level up your day on the bay by making a stop at Cape Enrage, the site of a 19th century lighthouse and foghorn (which remain operational to this day) where you can get a completely unique and gorgeous view of the Bay of Fundy via… zipline! If you’re feeling even more daring, you might even try rappelling down the 43-metre cliff side.

Beach Days are the Best Days

Grab your sunnies, your bathing suit and your sunscreen—it’s a beach day! Beach days are a tradition here in the Moncton-Dieppe area because of its proximity to the sandy Acadian coastline, which boasts the warmest saltwater beaches in Canada. No matter where you choose to park your beach chair and unpack your picnic, you’ll be greeted by warm sand and welcoming waves. Here are a few local favourites:

If you’d like to end your day in keeping with the nautical theme, Shediac Bay Cruises is the way to go. You can choose to sit back and relax on a delicious lobster dinner cruise or embark on a seafaring journey to learn about the history of the area.

Walk in the Park

There’s no need to go far to take advantage of nature; Moncton-Dieppe’s urban parks are green havens in the heart of the city. Visitors are free to enjoy the walking trails, aquatic facilities, and numerous other amenities at their leisure.

Take to the trees at Centennial Park with the TreeGO experience, a thrilling tree-to-tree obstacle course that will take you through the park and offer you unique views of the forest.
